truck driver

A Truck driver’s perspective

Recently, I have been looking into the lives of truck drivers. I read about a lot of them and also interacted with some personally. They all have this similarity of being flexible, self-dependent, honest, risk-takers and unshakeably calm and collected. The truck drivers stand at the bottom of the logistics chain hence it gets necessary to keep one’s expectation to get the worst morale. If you like being in your own company for long durations it can be rewarding for you. Else it might get a little lonely, and boring job.

Short intro to the job

It’s an industry which offers thin margins, got fixed costs and the new entrants are most vulnerable to all the filth. But it’s the story for mostly all of the professions, it doesn’t keep one from getting into the field. What I think is if one is willing to do the job, if one is passionate about it he/she can do wonders. Hence, one definitely grooms themselves to fit into what their subconscious wants them to be. There is a high demand for truck drivers due to the high employee turnover rate. The pay is also great when compared to other unskilled jobs. It’s just that one doesn’t get time to enjoy it as a full-time driver.

A truck driver’s job asks for a lot of patience. Being patient on the roads is very important. As it will help you get more offers while dealing with people with higher authority you need to remain calm. The people around you might be frustrated, there will be delays, changes in the plan. But a lot of that can be handled just by understanding the bigger picture and staying with peace. As a perk, you get to enjoy a lot of beautiful scenarios on the way. you’ll be exploring the world you have never seen before.

CHallenges on the way

  • Updated about the technology used in trucks.
  • Handy knowledge about the mechanical working in case the engine stops working.
  • Operate hydraulically driven pumps and compressors and multiple valves to load and unload the tanks.
  • Familiar with the roadways a bit.

risks involved

Truck accident, risks involved

It’s definitely not an easy task to handle such a huge vehicle. There are hydraulically driven pumps, compressors and multiple valves to load and unload the tanks. Handling them is complex and risky. If you get anything wrong the equipment can be damaged and anything could happen within the blink of an eye. There are a ton of health and safety regulations involved in the movement of goods. It does take some skill to navigate a big vehicle around the road system without damaging anything on the truck or on the road.
